Professor Medinat Folorunso Salman

Professor Medinat Folorunso Salman is a distinguished academic with a rich educational background and extensive professional experience in Mathematics Education. She began her journey at St. Clare’s Anglican Girls Grammar School in Offa, completing her secondary education in 1976. Following her passion for teaching, she attended Ilorin Teachers’ College, obtaining her Teachers’ Grade II certificate in 1977.

She furthered her education at the Federal College of Education in Pankshin, earning a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Mathematics and Chemistry in 1981. Afterward, she pursued a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Mathematics at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, graduating in 1985 with Second Class Upper Division. Professor Salman continued her academic pursuits at the University of Ilorin, where she earned her Master’s degree in Mathematics Education in 1990 and subsequently her Ph.D. in the same field in 1998.Throughout her career, Professor Salman has held numerous significant positions. Currently, she is the Vice Chancellor of the newly established Kwara State University of Education (KWSUED). Previously, she was the Head of the Department of Science Education and the Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Ilorin. In these roles, she has built a reputation for excellence in teaching and leadership. Her research contributions are substantial, with over 70 publications in both local, national and international reputable journals. Her work primarily focuses on Mathematics Education, addressing critical areas such as gender issues and innovative teaching methodologies. She is widely recognized for her commitment to enhancing educational practices and has presented her findings at various conferences.

Professor Salman’s teaching philosophy emphasizes curriculum evaluation and the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) into educational settings. This approach not only fosters student engagement but also equips learners with essential skills for the modern world. In addition to her teaching and research responsibilities, Professor Salman is a dedicated mentor who has supervised over 56 Master’s theses and 19 Ph.D. dissertations, significantly shaping the careers of many graduate students.
